Dis-ease
Pigment inkjet prints
These images were taken on 35mm slide film, of Sydney Harbour on Bicentennial day, January 26, 1988.
Due to a leaky roof, the slides were accidently soaked in water. Their emulsions were eaten by bacteria and the colour dyes were dissolved. The results are both beautiful and disturbing, a strange, automatic commentary on the mixed blessing of that national day. January 26 commemorates white settlement of this continent in 1788 but is called Invasion Day by indigenous Australians.
